Santa's Shop Reminder

AFTER SCHOOL CARE TAX INFORMATION

The After Care Tax Information for 2010 will be mailed to your home.  Watch for it in your mailbox the first or second week of January.

Rosary

The Rosary and reflection will be held at 6:30 this evening for the Fields/Cox family at St. Jude Church. The family will also be remembered at the Tuesday morning Rosary. You are welcome to attend either or both.

MATH CLUB RESUMES JAN 10, 2011

Just a reminder that there will be no Math Club next week, Dec. 13 and 15. Math Club will resume the week of Jan. 10. No Math Club the first week after vacation. Students wishing to continue with Math Club will need to register again for the second semester. Watch for forms to be sent home after vacation.
Games can be purchased for home use through www.mathpentath.org.
We certainly hope your child has enjoyed Math Club and hope to see them next semester.

December 24th Christmas Children’s Liturgy

The 4:00 Mass on Christmas Eve, is a celebration of the birth of Jesus Christ presented as the Children’s Liturgy.  As part of the liturgy, all children and families are invited to bring an unwrapped baby item to be donated to St. Elizabeth/Coleman Home for unwed mothers.  If you and your children are interested and available to make a donation, some of the items that are needed by the home are listed below.  If you have any questions please contact Jayne Rode at 865-3433.  Thank you for your support of this great cause.

You must pick up your order by 1:30 on Sunday, December 19.

SANTA'S SHOP

Children are invited to shop at our up-coming   “Holiday Gift Shop or Santa’s Shop” at St. Jude on December 16^th and 17^th.  It is an exciting program that enables your children to purchase their own special holiday gifts for friends and family.  Children will shop during the school day.

Gifts will be priced from 25₵ to $5.00.  We will have lots of lower priced items.

Have children earn the money to buy the gifts, by doing extra chores around the house.  What a great feeling for them to have earned the money and bought the gift all on their own.

CYO WRESTLING

Registration for CYO Wrestling is underway.  Registration fee ($40) must be received in the Youth Ministry office by the start of the practice.  Registration can be completed on the CYO website: http://www.cyoarchindy.org. 

Practice begins Monday, January 3^rd at 3:30pm.

Please check the expiration dates on your Box Tops.  If they are expired please don't attach them to the collection sheets.  We can't send in expired Box Tops!

SCHOOL BLANKET COLLECTION

We are collecting blankets for those in need this Christmas season as part of the parish service project.  If your student brings in one blanket they can be out of uniform on Monday, December 13^th, if they bring in two blankets they can be out of uniform on both Dec. 13 AND Dec. 14^th.  The blankets can be new or gently used.  Blankets will be counted as per family…so if you have multiple children in the school one blanket donation covers each of them for one out of uniform day..two blankets donated per family covers two out of uniform days.  Please consider giving the “Gift of Warmth” this Advent Season.

Adult Volleyball League

The new year is around the corner and we are getting ready for our 2011 winter co-ed adult volleyball recreational league. No spiking or overhead serves are allowed. We play on Saturday nights from January 8th until March 12th. There is a limited number of spots available so sign up ASAP. To sign up you must be at least 21 years old and a registered member of St. Jude Parish. Talk to anyone who has played and they will tell you how much fun it is... and a great night out.  Get your spouse and friends and sign up soon.  Last date to sign up is December 5th. SCRIP BEFORE CHRISTMAS

There are only 2 more weeks to order Scrip before Christmas Break!  The last order will be taken on Monday, Dec. 13th with delivery on Thursday, Dec. 16th.  Orders and payments must be in the school office by NOON ON MONDAYS!

There are many retailers that have been added to Scrip Now (scrip cards that can be downloaded from your computer).  These include Amazon, Chili's, CVS, Home Depot, iTunes, JCPenney, Land's End, Lowe's, Macaroni Grill, Maggiano's, O'Charley's & On the Border.

Also, some new retailers are now offering reloadable cards.  These include AMC, Burger King, CVS, Dominos, Gap, Hyatt, Old Navy, Lowe's, Starbucks and Papa John's.  Please remember to only reload them through the Scrip website!

Scrip is a great way to get tuition credit while shopping for the Holidays!!!  One family ordered Wal-Mart cards for their employer to give to all of their employees as gifts.  This is just an example of one of the many ideas for Scrip use.

All you have to do if fill out the registration form (which can be found at www.stjudeindy.org under high school youth ministry) We will provide the babysitters and the activities for the day, and you get to shop all morning kid free!!!

Homework Zone

Beginning December 3^rd, St. Jude will offer a program for students in grades 5-8 in the Family Youth Center from 3:15-4:30 on Tuesdays and Thursdays.  The focus will be on completing homework, providing help through Roncalli High School tutors, hanging out and eating snacks.  A flyer containing the details is available in the school office.  This program will provide an awesome “academically and socially” focused environment for our students to attend after school.

BOOT Season

The leaves have fallen and the temperature has dropped.  Just a reminder that boots are certainly acceptable as long as they are worn with pants pulled over the boots.  Students are not permitted to tuck their pants into their boots.   Thanks 

Phase 2 Update

Plans are moving forward.  We are currently just short of having 50% of all school family pledge cards returned.  Our school goal is to have 100% participation by our school families.  Financial support is obviously necessary for this project to move forward, however, a gift of prayer is just as valuable.  Please consider making a pledge and supporting the campaign through prayer.  If you need a pledge card please call the Parish Center or School Office.

Scholarships Awarded

I wanted to announce that out of the 301 students who took the Roncalli High School Placement test, we had 5 students awarded with scholarships for their high scores.  Out of 10 possible scholarships, St. Jude claimed 5, a first in the history of the test for a single school.  Congratulations to Rachel McKay, Matt Payne, Nick Conner, James Hayden, and Libby Stahl.  I would also like to congratulate the teachers and staff of St. Jude for their role in helping these students reach such a high level of achievement.   Way to go everyone!

SCIENCE NIGHT GRADES 6, 7, and 8

OCTOBER RECYCLING UPDATE

Thanks to everyone for using the recycling bin!!  We saved 17.44 cubic yards of landfill space and earned $83.72 for the month of October!!  What a painless way to help the environment and our school!

FALL MUSIC PROGRAM

Grades 1,3,5 and 6 will be presenting the Fall Music Program on Tuesday, November 16^th at 7:00pm in the Church.  The program will last approximately 45 minutes.  Have the kids wear their school uniforms to the performance.  No need to purchase or supply anything special.  The Students have been working hard on their songs and are anxious to present them to their families and friends.  Students should not arrive before 6:45.  See you there!

Black Light Volleyball

RONCALLI PANCAKE BREAKFAST!

The Roncalli High School Parents Organization is sponsoring a Pancake Breakfast on Saturday, November 20 from 8:00 – 10:30 AM in the school’s cafeteria.  The breakfast will include pancakes, sausage, bacon, eggs, milk, juice, coffee and rolls.  Cost is $6.00/for 6^th grade and above,  $3.00/for K-5^th grade and free for pre-K and under.  There is a $20 maximum per family.   Coupons for $2.00 off will be available for anyone that donates to the Can Food Drive and/or Blood Drive that morning.   All proceeds go to support student programs at Roncalli.  Come and enjoy a great start to your Saturday!

PICTURE RETAKES

Just a reminder that picture retakes are tomorrow, Wednesday, November 10th.  Students who were absent on the original picture day should have received picture forms.  Please fill them out, make a check out to Inter-State Studios and have your child hand it to the photographer at the time his/her picture is taken.  If you were unsatisfied with the original pictures, just send the entire package back with your child.  He/ she will give it to the photographer when the picture is retaken.  Students having their pictures retaken may dress for the occasion.  Please, no jeans!

Great News from the Girl Scouts

GOOD NEWS

Hats off to 8^th grade Girl Scout troop 917.  Together they rallied and organized a bake sale for charity.  The troop raised $263.00 which will be used to purchase toiletry items that will be donated the Julian Center, for abused women and children.  Thanks to all families that supported the sale.

Way to go Girl Scout troop 917.  You are great Christian role models!

MARKET DAY

This month, place your order with Market Day by November 9^th and receive it in plenty of time for Thanksgiving!   They have everything you need to make a wonderful family dinner that’s easy and delicious!   Be sure and check out the pies too!    November is pie bonus month so the school will receive a $1.75 for every pie sold!!

St. Barnabas will once again be hosting BLACK LIGHT VOLLEYBALL!!

The event will take place on Saturday, November 13^th. 

6^th graders will play from 3pm-4:30.

VOLLEYBALL REGISTRATION INFORMATION

Volleyball Registration deadline is November 10, 2010.  No late registrations will be accepted so please register by this date at the CYO web-site, www.cyoarchindy.org

All young ladies 4^th – 8^th grade are encouraged to play.

We are also looking for coaches for all grade levels, please let us know if you are interested.

There will be two dates for tryouts, one will be Sunday November 21; the second date has not been determined.  The second date will be sent early next week at the latest.

"THANKSGIVING BASKETS"

Our annual “Thanksgiving Basket” project is now underway.  Students may begin bringing in non-perishable food items for families whose names are provided to us by St. Vincent DePaul.  The food is delivered to the families the week of Thanksgiving and provides a wonderful dinner for these people in need.  The turkeys are provided by the PTO.   So buy a little extra when doing your grocery shopping and start sending in items for the "Thanksgiving Baskets".

Grandparents Day! Book Fair! Spirit Day!

Don't forget to invite grandparents to Grandparents Day this Friday, November 5 from 9:00am to 10:30am. It is also Book Fair Week and Friday is Spirit Day!  What a great way to end the week!

PET VACCINATION CLINIC!

 Edgewood Preschool Cooperative is hosting a Pet Vaccination Clinic on Saturday, November 6^th from 1:00 – 4:00 pm as a benefit for Brian Terry, a recent Bone Marrow Transplant Recipient.  A licensed veterinarian (and friend of the Terry Family) will be giving canine and feline vaccinations at discounted costs.  Canine Vaccines:  Rabies/Distemper/Kennel Cough Package ($30), Distemper/Parvo ($15), Bordetella (Kennel Cough) ($10), Lyme ($20), and Giardia ($12).  Feline Vaccines:  Rabies/Distemper Package ($25), Rabies only ($10), Distemper/Leuk/Calici only ($20).  The Clinic will be located at the shelter at Edgewood Preschool Cooperative/Faith United Church of Christ at 4040 East Thompson Road, Indianapolis, IN  46237.

Rebels Heading to Chicago for the Holidays!

Holiday shopping in Chicago! The Roncalli High School Alumni Association is sponsoring the third annual Alumni and Friends bus trip to Chicago on Saturday, December 4.  Start the day with coffee and doughnuts at 7:00 am in the Roncalli cafeteria.  Departure for Chicago is at 8:00 am (7:00 Chicago time) returning back to Roncalli by 11:00 pm. Calling All Moms!

COATS, PANTS AND JEANS FOR THE NEEDY!!

Now is the time to clean out your closets and donate gently used and clean coats, pants and jeans.

Roncalli Placement Test

RONCALLI INVITES 8TH GRADERS TO PLACEMENT TEST

Roncalli High School invites all eighth grade students to take the High School Placement Test on Saturday, November 13, 2010.  The test begins at 8 a.m. and will end at approximately 11:15 a.m.  There is a $10 fee and may be paid in cash or by check payable to Roncalli High School, and students are asked to bring two #2 pencils. No preregistration is required. Students should arrive at 7:45 a.m. at the Auditorium entrance. There will also be a parent information meeting for parents of 8^th graders from 10-11 a.m. in the Auditorium.

GIRL SCOUT BAKE SALE

Come and Visit the St. Jude 8th grade Girl Scouts this Saturday at Walmart

The St Jude 8^th grade Girl Scouts will be hosting a bake sale at  the Walmart on US 31 this Saturday.

Sales will begin at 9:30 am.  All of the proceeds will go to the Julian Center for abused women and children.

The Phase 2 Capital Campaign

The Phase 2 capital campaign is off to a great start!  It is not too late to send in your pledge card if you have not done so yet.  Please bring pledge cards to Mass this weekend and place them in the offertory basket, or return them to the school office or parish center.

Come spend part of your Saturday with the Roncalli Rebel players and coaches!!  We will take this 90 minute session to work with each camper’s skills, and get him ready for another exciting basketball season!  Please pre-register, as only those pre-registered will be guaranteed a T-shirt!
